Bachmann Midland 3F 3522

This was an impulse buy, which came in the Midland Marvel starter set. I picked this up when I was 18 and had just received my first payslip from my weekend job as a waiter. I drove home from sixth form during a free period, tracking the delivery van on my phone and racing it home to ensure I could receive it. Weirdly, I only took it out and ran it a few times before losing interest, meaning it stayed in my cupboard for the next 9 years. Eventually I came back to it, and it had been waiting patiently for a long time. It is DCC ready and runs beautifully at high and low speeds. For more information about this specific model, just click here.

Introduced in the early 20th century, this class was designed for the Midland Railway and quickly became a workhorse for freight duties. The 3F 3522, with its characteristic 0-6-0 wheel configuration, was known for its reliability and sturdy construction, making it a favourite for hauling heavy loads over long distances. Despite being primarily freight engines, these locos occasionally handled passenger services, showcasing their versatility. Today, several Midland 3Fs, including the 3522, are preserved on heritage railways, where they continue to impress with their enduring performance and historical significance.
