Bachmann GWR 94XX

This lovely tank engine is DCC ready, with a smoke box light and sound capability. I received it as a Christmas present from my parents, so I’m not sure on the cost, though I know it must have been over £120. It’s detailed and a smooth runner, though not as good as crawling as my Class 08. I asked for it as I wanted a steam alternative for my early BR inglenook shunting layout. It also means I can run my early BR rolling stock in a faster train on a larger layout in the future. I’m very pleased with it. Thanks Mum! Introduced in the late 1940s, these locomotives were the last steam engines built for the Great Western Railway. Designed for heavy shunting and short-distance freight work, the 94XXs were compact yet powerful, with their characteristic pannier tanks giving them a distinctive appearance. They were incredibly versatile, handling various tasks around rail yards with ease. Today, several of these engines are preserved on heritage railways, where they continue to delight enthusiasts with their robust performance and timeless GWR charm.
